KOTA KINABALU: The Society for the Sabah Heart Fund’s (SOSHF) seven congenital heart patients who underwent corrective heart surgery at Korea had returned safely home.
SOSHF honorary secretary, Eva Susau said in a press statement from the society yesterday that the patients left Sabah on March 22, this year, and returned home in two batches. Five patients returned on April 5, while the remaining arrived home on April 12.
SOSHF also sent another five patients to undergo corrective heart surgery on April 2, she said.
“This group of patients have returned on April 22 after a successful surgery at Bucheon Sejong Hospital,” she said.
In appreciation, the SOSHF thanked the Korea Food for the Hungry International for the collaborations with the Bucheon Sejong Hospital and many others who have worked behind the scene.
“We hope this program will continue for a long time as it has really help reduce the
break log or the waiting list in Sabah. The cost of SOSHF sponsoring to Korea is
RM5,000.00 per head which covers for airfare, passport fees, Insurance and allowances
whilst the surgery cost, lodging and food incurred in Korea are all borne by the Korean
counterpart. This is indeed awesome!”
She added that SOSHF still continue to send patients to Gleneagles KL for corrective heart
surgeries. The cost of treatment there range between RM30, 000 to 35,000 per patient.
Between January of this year, to presently, the SOSHF has already sent 12 patients to Korea, one patient to Kuala Lumpur and one to Penang Adventist Hospital.
She added that four more patients are scheduled to leave before the end of this month.
In her statement, Eva also expressed her happiness over the proposed half way home which will be called the ‘Sabah Childrens’ Lodge’, as they are close to realising it.
“The land for the construction of the said building has already received the approval from the Hospital department and is sited at the Likas Women & Children Hospital. This place is ideal as it serves the patients best.”
She explained that the building will be constructed and funded by a prominent development
construction.
“The building plan should be ready very soon and we hope everything will be on schedule and hope authorities involved will assist us in what ever they can to make this smooth for the materialization of this building for our heart patients from outstations.”
